INTRODUCTION
Unlike others, this course squarely addresses the ‘why’ and ‘how’ of screenwriting.
Karel explains what this course offers that others don’t, and why it works. It’s like a producer teaching you how to tell your story in the language they want.
The Story Series has helped these writers break in, sell stories, and make movies.
It’s frickin’ amazing – from developing a marketable concept to scene and dialogue techniques and pitching. The students are a blend of first-timers and experienced writers. I’ve come out of it with a bucket full of concepts I want to develop and the beginnings of a feature. I missed a few sessions while touring, and I’m planning to make them up later this year. Yes, it’s that good that I’m going back on purpose. I massively recommend this.
Last night, I signed my first TV option agreement. To say The Story Series and Karel’s infinite wisdom in the field have contributed to my success would be an understatement. I found this course SO invaluable, I completed it twice – and would have raced back for a third time had it been possible. The Story Series equipped me with the screenwriting skills to stand out from the pack (a MUST in this industry!)
My Big Four names for learning about story theory are Joseph Campbell, Michael Hauge, Michael Arndt and Karel Segers, and out of those names, Karel has taught me the most. He just might be the most underrated story analyst in the world today. If I didn’t have the good fortune of learning from him, my first feature film would never have been made.

After three years of screenwriting school, I manage to learn something new every time I attend one of the classes, and what wasn’t new served as a great reminder for what I should’ve remembered.
I’ve been making films for years and have encountered dozens of ‘gurus’, but Segers helped make writing a part of my everyday life. My first feature just premiered in the US, and I have another spec on the way. That wouldn’t be the case without learning from Karel Segers.”

Outcomes & deliverables
Like all courses, output is directly related to input. Previous students have accelerated their skills to the point that they instantly started winning contests and selling screenplays.
At a minimum, you should walk away with a pitchable, industry-standard logline, the first act of your script—which you can use as a writing sample—and an elevator pitch for your project.
Loglines come in many forms and shapes. We will train you in an effective industry formula that allows you to build highly successful loglines that run from 25 to 40 words and longer, while still being clear and compelling.
Here’s a tip: the 25-second pitch does not serve to sell your story, but to establish a connection with the industry person. We’ll train you on how to maximise the conversation that follows.
Follow the principles of this course, and your first act screenplay will be un-put-downable. Offer your readers an experience that is both dramatically and aesthetically rewarding.
Payment plans available for The Platinum Series only. Get in touch via this contact form to inquire.
A minimum deposit of 25% is due upon enrolment; 50% upon commencement.
(*) Price increases from 1/31/2025.
(**) Story coaches are trained writers who are well versed in providing feedback within a group environment.
Karel will not be a story coach for this course.
